Jaboticaba Powder

Also spelt Jobuticaba, this extraordinary berry grows directly off the bark of the tree. It is characterized by its deep purple / black thick skin with a sweet white gelatinous centre. Native to Brazil, this hugely popular fruit is found in a wide variety of products from liqueurs, wines, juices, jams, tarts and jellies. The deep purple colour of the skin gives testament to its rich content of bioactive compounds and antioxidant activity, with studies identifying a high content of phenolic compounds, anthocyanins, flavonoids and condensed tannins. Apart from its nutritional benefits and attractive purple / violet colour, the resulting powder has a pleasant sweet flavour.

Pitanga Powder

Also known as the Suriname Cherry, Pitanga is a berry that grows natively throughout Brazil and has been appreciated for its intensely sweet tart flavor. Used widely in Brazil for flavouring juices, jams and jellies, the deep red, orange or purple berry is rich in carotenoids, flavonoids, anthocyanins and in vitamin C. Studies have found the particular flavonoids contained within the fruit to be especially efficient at reducing oxidative stress levels. Pitanga also stands out as being a good source of the carotenoid Lycopene, known for its positive effects on cardiovascular risk factors. Our Pitanga Powder is easily soluble in water ideal for beverage applications.

Lulo Powder

Native to the Andes region, Lulo (also known as Naranjilla) is widely used for making juices, jams, desserts and fermented beverages. As yet largely unknown outside of South America, its citrusy flavour and nutritional properties have all the makings of a successful superfood in the international market. Its flavour has been described as a cross between rhubarb and lime, making it particularly successful in beverage applications. Nutritionally, studies conducted so far have found interesting levels of carotenoids, including Lutein, with its know benefits for eye health. Soluble in water and light yellow in colour, our Lulo powder is a gem waiting to be discovered.

Tamarillo Powder

Like Lulo, Tamarillo is part of the nightshade family and is native to the Andes. Unlike Lulo, Tamarillo has already met with success globally, particularly in Australasia, where it is widely used in juices, desserts, compotes and chutneys. More recently it has been used as a flavouring in fermented beverages such as kombucha. It has a bold and complex flavour, with sweet tangy notes, that is not easily described, but sometimes compared to passionfruit and guavas. Tamarillo is low in calories, but presents significant amounts of bioactive components such as anthocyanins, carotenoids and flavonoids, as well as high levels of minerals, most notably iron, potassium and magnesium.

Feijoa Powder

Another South American fruit that has met with good success outside of its native region, the feijoa fruit can often be found growing in gardens throughout New Zealand. Its aromatic and complex flavour reminds of guavas, strawberries and pineapples. Used in a wide range of applications, from juices and smoothies, ice-creams and yoghurts, jams and chutneys as well as in fermented beverages, the feijoa is a very versatile fruit. Its dominant flavour makes it easier to use as a single flavouring ingredient rather than being mixed with other strong flavoured ingredients. This low calorie fruit is notable as an excellent source of vitamin C.

Cashew Fruit Powder

The cashew fruit, or cashew apple, grows widely in its native northeastern region of Brazil. Like figs, the cashew fruit is an accessory fruit, being attached to the cashew nut. Its juicy flesh makes a popular drink, enjoyed for its tropical flavour that is both sweet and astringent and described as having notes of mango, green bell peppers with a hint of citrus. It is also widely used in fermented beverages, jams, ice-creams and chutneys. Nutritionally cashew fruit is rich in minerals, especially potassium, phosphorous and magnesium, along with Vitamin C. Studies into its phytochemical profile have revealed a complex source of antioxidants, notably phenolic compounds and carotenoids.

Dragon Fruit Powder

The dragon fruit, also know as Pitaya or Pitahaya, is the fruit of a cactus commonly found in two varieties, red and white. Both present a subtle sweet flavour that has notes of berries, watermelon, pear and kiwis, and is enjoyed mostly in beverage applications. Both the white and red varieties are rich in polyphenols and carotenoids (Beta-carotene and lycopene in particular), with the addition of betacyanins that give the red dragon fruit their characteristic colour, all powerful antioxidants. Also a good source of Vitamin C, Vitamins B1, B2 and B3, Iron and Calcium, it is not surprising that Dragon Fruit is raising in the ranks of superfoods.

Murta Berry Powder

The intense flavour of the Chilean Murta Berry, with its sweet floral notes, has led this relatively unknown fruit to receive some considerable attention in the aroma industry in recent years. Studies have identified 24 volatile aromatics, with an intriguing mix of both tropical and traditional aroma constituents, including aromas found in common fruits such as apricots and peaches, mixed with aromas found in tropical fruit such as pitanga, camu camu and cashew fruit. Add to this its rich and diversified composition of health-promoting bioactive compounds, specifically flavonoids (most notably anthocyanins), along with resveratrol and phenolic acids, and we have a berry worthy of the name superfood.

Coffee Cherry Powder

Whilst we are all familiar with the coffee bean, the surrounding pulp and skin of the coffee cherry (sometime also referred to as berry) is now making headway into the beverage category, with antioxidant teas and energy drinks leading the way. Valued for its considerable phenolic and antioxidant content, along with the stimulant properties of the caffeine also present in the husks, the coffee cherry is a truly functional ingredient. Its flavour is quite different to the bean, and is characterised as fruity with berry notes similar to blackcurrants, strawberries and raisins. The subtle flavour lends itself well to a range of beverage applications.

Guayusa Powder

Another interesting ingredient to launch in the natural energy sector is Guayusa. Very rapidly this energising herb has found its way into a plethora of new product launches from energy drinks, iced teas and sports nutrition. Indigenous to the Amazon rainforest our Organic Guayusa Extract Powder is harvested in Ecuador and undergoes an extraction process to concentrate the natural caffeine and polyphenol content. It has been noted that the caffeine from guayusa is complemented by its content of L-theanine, an amino acid that in conjunction with caffeine tends to result in a more sustainable energy boost without some of the anxiety producing effects of caffeine by itself.
